History:
Established in 1982 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) based in Cottage Grove, our mission is to provide safe, accessible and economical service to those who need transportation to local destinations and as far away as the Eugene/Springfield metro areas. For 40 years South Lane Wheels has provided thousands of individuals rides to doctor appointments, shopping, restaurants, residences, nutrition sites, recreation, workplaces, school, and special events.
Purpose:
SLW is not just for seniors. Anyone can ride because there are no eligibility requirements! There are low cost options: a low cost app based mobility on demand service, local and metro door-to-door services, that connects riders to destinations in Lane County.
Service Area:
We are a public transportation system that connects people with where they want to go in South Lane County including Cottage Grove, Creswell, Dorena, Culp Creek, Saginaw, London, and Lorane.
Ridership:
During 2023 South Lane Wheels provided approximately 20,246 one way rides to destinations where people need to go. Whenever possible we grouped riders to conserve our environment and allow for additional trips, as we drove over 152,137 miles. All of our eight vehicles are wheelchair accessible, which means a lot when the lift was used 357 times.
Funding Sources:
South Lane Wheels is funded by federal, state and local grants and supported by local and in-kind donations. It is operated by a dedicated staff and a volunteer board of directors that provides oversight and conducts a public meeting once a month. Whenever possible, South Lane Wheels collaborates with area agencies and businesses to maximize community benefit.
South Lane Wheels is a public transportation transit agency with no eligibility requirements to ride. This means that you can ride with us on any service we offer be it the Origin to Destination Service, the Metro Shuttle, or the Cottage Grove Connector.
All of our services have a schedule to maintain with the riders’ needs in mind.
CANCELLATION POLICY- Please be considerate and respectful of other riders and our drivers by calling the dispatcher by 8am day of your ride to cancel a reservation or it is considered a “No–Show.”
The “5-MINUTE RULE” allows the driver to wait up to 5-minutes after the scheduled pick up time for a rider to board the vehicle. If a rider does not board within the 5-minutes, the driver will leave, and report this trip as a “No–Show.”
A pattern of “No–Shows” may affect future ride requests.

FOR OUR COMMUNITIES
South Lane Wheels provides safe, reliable, and accessible transportation to empower people of all capabilities while strengthening connections between individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
Our fares do not cover all of the expenses to support South Lane Wheels. It is the generosity of others through donations that allow our non-profit agency to exist.
We believe we have enhanced the lives of those we serve through a professionally trained staff, a sense of security, independence and dependability. We strive to make our services affordable and continue to look for ways to control costs.
Call the Executive Director to discuss in-kind donations or services or mail a check to our main office: 1450 Birch Ave, Cottage Grove, OR 97424. We appreciate your support of all South Lane Wheels’ transportation options.
